From Seed to Pumpkin

By Wendy Pfeffer

It is unfortunate that this wonderful books has to open with the farmer standing in bib-overalls with a hoe in his hand and a straw hat on his head. Three for three stereotypes on the first page of a book is an unusual negative accomplishment. It is unfortunate because the rest of the book is wonderful. It accurately depicts germination; pumpkin plants growing and flowering; pollination by bees; young pumpkins growing; larger pumpkins growing and still green; pumpkins changing colors; and uses for pumpkins. In fact, unlike almost all other books about pumpkins, this one is accurate. That is why we are recommending it in spite of the stereotypes. Please address that when using this book.
