Are you a 4-H or FFA student seeking activities to participate in at a local elementary school? Are you a teacher looking to fill a couple of class periods? Or maybe you were invited into your child's classroom for a presentation.

No matter the reason, we can help! This blog series will feature some great resources that make it easy to bring ag topics to life.

With fall in full swing and Thanksgiving around the corner, this blog will focus on harvesting.

  • Start off class by reading a book about harvest. Here are some of our favorites: My Family’s Corn Farm, Hey, Hey, Hay!, and John Deere, That’s Who!
  • If students have access to a computer, play a My American Farm game!
    • Harvest This tests math skills while learning about harvesting.
    • In From Seed to Shirt, follow cotton from harvest to t-shirt and see how cotton clothes are made.
  • After playing one of the games, do this worksheet with this class, or have copies for students to do individually, to learn more about harvesting equipment.
  • If there is enough time, or if you have multiple class periods, this distribution relay lesson tests students’ knowledge about how commodities are transported from farms to consumers.
    • Tractors are an important part of the harvest season! Older students can make their own tractor out of cardboard in this Purple Plow Puzzler
