The free 5th Annual USA Science & Engineering Festival was held in Washington, D.C. from April 6-8. With the help of the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation and their mobile ag lab, the Foundation brought agriculture to life in their booth!

Before even entering the ag lab, children were challenged to an interactive agriculture-related hopscotch game. Once inside, children explored agriculture through a scavenger hunt and a make and take activity!

Visitors to the Foundation's booth were able to interact with the Foundation's new My American Farm Display Kit! There are 4 different displays- corn, dairy, equipment and farmer's market, and each create their own unique learning experience. The banners come with printable pick-up cards that are full of questions for all different age groups.

Examples of questions include:

  • "Dairy cows produce a lot of milk! Count the number of gallons of milk on the banner to see how many gallons one cow can produce in one day".
  • There have been many improvements made to tractors to increase safety. Find 3 things on the tractor that make it safe!

You can set up your own My American Farm Display at your next fair or event. Find out how here!

Students and their families also learned about beef in the booth! They played My American Farm games through the All About Beef App, answered questions with a spinner wheel, learned beef cuts through a puzzle, and got to see a cattle ranch through virtual reality!

Virtual reality videos were generously given to the Foundation by Beef Checkoff. Check out more of our beef resources here

In the resource corner, adult attendees got to walk away with an Ag Mag sample after learning a little bit more about how the Foundation educates the public about agriculture. The Foundation also collected Thank a Farmer or Rancher cards from attendees to give to REAL farmers and ranchers across the country.
