Are you a 4-H or FFA student seeking activities to participate in at a local elementary school? Are you a teacher looking to fill a couple of class periods? Or maybe you were invited into your child's classroom for a presentation.

No matter the reason, we can help! This blog series will feature some great resources that make it easy to bring ag topics to life.

National Sandwich Month is celebrated in August, but these resources are available any day of the year!

  • Start with reading Right This Very Minute or How Did That Get in My Lunchbox? After reading, discuss with the class what they have learned.
    • PB&J Hooray! is also another good choice to read with the class.
  • After the class discussion, have students practice shapes by “making” a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in this free lesson.
  • If students are a bit older, check out this fun algebra sandwich lesson! "Make" a sandwich with each piece of the sandwich representing a step in the algebra problem.
  • While this Purple Plow Puzzler may be geared towards middle and high school students, the class could do this all together. Design a school cafeteria menu- for lunch and breakfast- for one month, using MyPlate nutritional guidelines!

Is there still some time left?

  • If you have younger students, play the My American Farm game, "Load the Lunchbox." In this game, students will learn about how different foods make it from farm to lunchbox.
  • Older students can practice their English language arts skills by describing what they think the word "sandwich" means and what ingredients they think make the best sandwich. You can download the worksheet for free from education.com.
