Bringing Agriculture in the Classroom- Flower Farming
This blog series features some great resources that make it easy to bring ag topics to life. This blog will focus on flower farming!

Are you a 4-H or FFA student seeking activities to participate in at a local elementary school? Are you a teacher looking to fill a couple of class periods? Or maybe you were invited into your child's classroom for a presentation.
No matter the reason, we can help! This blog series will feature some great resources that make it easy to bring ag topics to life.
This blog will focus on flower farming!
- First, read this interview with real flower farmers from Oregon and Massachusetts. Make it interactive and assign students parts to read.

- For older students, print out copies of “The Artistic Arrangement” and have students read to learn about the art of flower arranging.
- If the students are not yet strong readers, read aloud “The Soil in Jackie’s Garden” or another book on flowers from our recommended book list.
- You might not be able to take the class to a real flower farm, but you can give them an up-close look in this 360-degree video! Have students access on their own Chromebooks or do it together as a class.
- Another option is to play the My American Farm game “That’s Life” to learn about life cycles.
- If there is time, do this “Scientific Flower Pen” activity in class. If not, send the lesson and materials home for the kids to complete with their families.
