Bringing Agriculture in the Classroom- Fall Foods

Are you a 4-H or FFA student seeking activities to participate in at a local elementary school? Are you a teacher looking to fill a couple of class periods? Or maybe you were invited into your child's classroom for a presentation. 

No matter the reason, we can help! This blog series will feature some great resources that make it easy to bring ag topics to life. 

Fall is right around the corner, so let’s explore fall foods!

• The Fall Foods Ag Mag explores fall fruits and vegetables, as well as where some Thanksgiving favorites get their start. You can get a classroom set of 30 here.
  • This is geared towards 3rd to 5th grade readers; older readers can read “The Prized Pumpkin” to learn about growing pumpkins.
  • With younger readers, read a book about apples, like Apples for All.
• Farmers' markets are popular places to find fall foods like apples or vegetables like squash! If you have access to a computer, play My American Farm’s “Farmers Market Challenge.” The game has K-2 and 3-5 grade levels.
• In this Purple Plow Puzzler, students create an informational display for grocery stores that informs consumers about seasonal produce. Have the class research fall produce in season in your area.
