Welcome to our At Home Learning Page! We will do our best to offer weekly ideas for at home learning about agriculture! These activities will all be free to access and share. Our weekly activities do not build on each other, but are individual and can be done in any order.

There are a lot of important agriculturists who have made a difference in the world of farming.

This week let’s learn about Dr. George Washington Carver!

Before we dive into activities, do some research on who he was. This article is a good starting place.

This lesson from PBS also has great background on who Dr. Carver was and all of his contributions to agriculture. While this lesson is best for a traditional classroom setting, it can be adapted to be used at home.

Ready for more? Read "In the Garden with Dr. Carver". If you don 't have a copy, here is a read aloud version. Another great book about George Washington Carver is this one from Peggy Thomas. It includes 21 hands-on activities!

Many people think of peanuts when they think of Dr. Carver because he was a huge innovator in creating products using peanuts. Play "Operation Peanut Butter" to learn more about how peanuts grow. Do note though, that while many people believe Dr. Carver invented peanut butter, he did not!

For more peanut math, science and history, check out the Peanut Activity Cards! These lessons are best for 3rd-5th grade learners.

If there are no nut allergies in your home, check out this tasty, no-bake snack— peanut butter popcorn bars!
